What's your thoughts on emulation of OLD AND NEW (NOT JUST OLD EMULATION! EMULATION OF NEW HARDWARE)
games? Do you think emulation is a good or bad thing? Understandably there are modern emulators as well that coexist ewith classic emualtion, just want everyones opinions on the subject in the comments below! (Community Question Quest #16)
Emulation is great for people who can't afford old consoles
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect for Homebrew romes for the NES,SNES and 64 emulators!
ReplyDeleteThe Animated Gamer old AND NEW
ReplyDeleteModern emus keep old games alive. Luckily for all gamers, all major consoles and PC run on x86-64 which means you don't need emulators to run games on different platforms (you just bring your dependencies if they aren't present).
ReplyDeleteMaybe in the future when we go beyond x86-64 we will need a new set of emulators.
But currently because we're actually more often than not doing x86-32 software commands on x86-64 hardware, it might be another decade or two until this becomes an issue 😊
Alexis Boom I think it will be longer than that.
ReplyDelete🙌
ReplyDeleteLord Dingus the thing is emulation isn't codoning pirating. You can still buy a Wii game and play it on the CemUlator
ReplyDeleteEmulation of old consoles is great. New consoles? Of course not. If it is still being sold in stores brand new, that is piracy.

ReplyDeleteAlexander Hums how so ?
ReplyDeleteYou can buy an original game disc and emulate it
That doesn't count as piracy
The Animated Gamer boom
ReplyDeleteAhmed Jan Of a current console? That is still piracy, as the hardware to run it has not been purchased and is being run via emulator. For instance in my book, currently the PS4, XBOX ONE, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS should be off the table for emulation.
ReplyDeleteAlexander Hums you can buy the games make Isos off of them for the new games.
ReplyDeleteI think a better reason why there would be no emulation for consoles like PS4 and XBONE is because half of their library is already on PC. Hell Sony even has PlayStation now where you can play their games on PC. So emulation for those consoles wouldn't make sense at this point in time since they already take PC into consideration
Emulation is one of humanitys greatest inventions
ReplyDeleteAlexander Hums just stop
ReplyDeleteAll is fair.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fine, as long as you own some form of the game if it's available. If it's not available, just go anyways.
ReplyDeleteIt's and old school thing and world has moved on long time ago! :)

ReplyDeleteEmulation is a great way to play games that are practically obsolete.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem is that you have to watch out for Nintendo because they are against emulation as a whole for the bs reason that emulating their extremely old games is stealing money from them.
I love playing Majora's Mask on an N64 Emulator on my tablet, so I'm good with emulating!
ReplyDeleteSalvo Denti Why? I'm merely stating fact.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing, you can play most of old games on emulators... And new also, I'm talking about android games. It's good when you break your phone for a while for example
ReplyDeleteIt's good. It preserves old games
ReplyDeleteIt helps old games stay in existence

ReplyDeleteNowadays, consoles from 20/30 years ago have already suffered a lot of corrosion on their internal hardware leaving them unusable. So how can we replay great classics from the past if old technologies are no longer available for the factories to produce a new wave of "new" old consoles?
ReplyDeleteOur salvation is the emulators for PCs. PCs are always gaining new parts every year. New CPUs, GPUs and MOBOs so, they're automatically saved from the hardware corrosion
For the sake of preserving the great classics of the past, WE NEED THE EMULATORS.
We must never allow an important part of video game history to disappear and never come back
I say only emulate if the game is not in production anymore like most wii and ps3 games.
ReplyDeleteOr for modern ps4 and nintendo please buy the game legitimately and take the rom from there if you wish to emulate for a 4K or mods.
I'll be honest. Without emulation, I never would have found out about other games that I missed or never played. From that, I actually ended up importing games because I liked it. Arcades are probably the hardest to own mostly because they can be rare or not many of us have the space to own them so this can come in handy. Or just buy compilations. I still have emulators but I don't play them as often as I once did. Only to try homebrew or other games that I may never have heard of.

ReplyDeleteI miss gex Nathaniel Clay don’t you?
ReplyDeleteAmber Short thats why preservation is also really important. Same with me, back when I was in middle school (2009ish) I played on the dreamcast emualtor NullDC and loved Sonic Adventure 2 ALOT. So much that in 2016 I purchased my very own dreamcast with a copy of the game. That story shows that emulation can drive sales. (As for compilations) Nintendo is a company thats been ripping roms off of sites recently and taking down live streams of classic and new emulated games, they have classic consoles, but with them being hard to get, its sad for nornal people who dont want to f*ck with a scalper. I wish I had a deeper heart for homebrew as well.
ReplyDeleteHizhangouts somewhat, could use a rerelease though
ReplyDeleteNathaniel Clay goes to show ya that nintendo is allergic to money for some reason

Alexander Hums a fact that has been proven wrong many times.
ReplyDeleteSalvo Denti . . . . . I'm talking about current-gen platforms, not ones from the past, as I have explained. So I must assume you are stating that about emulation of the PS4, Switch, etc., Hardware in stores right now. So, how is that not stealing?
ReplyDeleteAlexander Hums because you can still buy the game and then emulate it. There is no rule saying:"you cant buy a game and play it on another platform because its stealing". Dont you see how stupid it sounds?
ReplyDeleteSalvo Denti It harms the very platform from which the game is being emulated from; another hardware sale lost and it infringes upon the hardware owner's intellectual property.
ReplyDeleteExample; another company releases a 3DS "reader" for smart phones. Whether that product is sold or given away, it is not simply 'buying a game and playing it on another platform'. It is another 3DS sale lost and infringes upon Nintendo's intellectual property. And if there is nothing wrong with it, why would Nintendo have rightful legal discourse with said company?
Alexander Hums as you said "it harms the platform",i dont think i need to argue with you anymore.
ReplyDeleteLets make an example: i want to play botw, but the only official way ti play that game is to get a switch/wii u,why the hell would i spend 300$ for a console for just one game? That is stupid, somi decide to emulate it but still buy the original game, and no,thats not piracy at all, piracy is when you dont own a original copy of the game but you still emulate it. Want to know what causes more harm to the industry? Used games,if you want an explanation about that, just ask.
