Will Streaming Online Video Methods Slowly Kill The Purpose Of E3 Presentations?! (Community Poll #14)

Will Streaming Online Video Methods Slowly Kill The Purpose Of E3 Presentations?! (Community Poll #14)
Recently I have read about a lot of publishers skipping E3 this year. Companies like Nintendo don't even do presentations at all anymore and simply stream to the web. Is E3 necessary anymore when you can stream there presentations from home? I would love to know below! #e3 #gaming

  1. Nathaniel Clay E3 and other gaming expo presentations are made to financiers, developers, and publishers primarily. The real reason for the expo is to attract these people and shower goodies on them until they give you benevolence.

The spectacle for consumers is only a side effect of it all. In reality it's a public look into the world of game financing.

  3. The Nice Poodle did you even read my first comment in the slightest? Did you make any attempt whatsoever before you replied?

Your responses are a perfect microcosm of E3. The idea is to get financiers hyped, games aren't made first then sold to recoup the cost because only small indie groups can live like that using cheap tech.

You need the money first, and then normally you run out of it because we make games in debt based economies so things like E3 help where you get a chance to bring in more money and other developers to replace the ones who have normally left you because of shit pay or overpressure.

E3 serves as the hype machine, the booth babes and big spectacle mean that you're trying to distract the money from the fact you haven't actually fished the game and made a profit yet.

  4. No, people will still go to physically test new hardware are software. The press can't do that from a stream 😐.

  5. The Nice Poodle * sigh *

If you're watching it on a screen, calmly sat in your boardroom, surrounded by experts and peers then you're much less likely to go "let's invest $120m in launching their game" than if you're sat in the boardroom after spending the weekend being surrounded by booth babes and getting free merch whilst having interviews with the top producers of said game.

It's not just game financiers that visit E3, a lot of investment banks will have scouts there. The point of E3 is the hype, it's about getting people riled up to invest obscene money and potentially lose it all.

For consumers like you and I, yes streaming and videos are perfect because platform owners like Steam, Microsoft, Sony, Google are going to decide how you and I consume the end content. You and I are just masturbating waiting to be told how much of our money will go away to line the pockets of the financiers (not the developers or publishers), you and I have no decisions to make from what happens at E3 other than can we financially justify the purchase which is what the videos are for - to bias that justification.

  6. Alexis Boom Booth babes were explicitly banned a couple years ago. Harsh penalties apply to those who do not follow this rule. I agree with everything else you said (but I think 120m is a bit of an exaggeration, maybe a couple million at most, if their lucky to even recieve investments in the millions).

  7. The Nice Poodle yeah that's fine, I'm just trying to get across that you have to remember that originally consumers were banned from E3 and it was industry insiders and investors only.

Now consumers can visit E3 on 1 of the main 3 days, the rest is internal presentations. You're right, E3 is absolutely pointless to consumers.

  8. The Nice Poodle E3 is a press only event, lol. You have to win tickets to go to E3 if you're a consumer. They also sell a couple VIP tickets as well, but those are expensive.

  9. Alexis Boom Wait, 2 days? I thought it was 1 day 😐. I must have got my facts wrong. At this point, consumers don't actually go very much.

  12. E3 is an electronics expo we just want to see the gaming side of it. It really has a lot of tech showing at the conference

  13. Nintendo direct is awesome so why not do more of those at E3.

  14. Honestly E3 kinda sucks, what with all the tech demos that crash and the terrible presenters shoved on stage.

  15. Will Reid E3 is an important event for gamers, that's why we tune in to E3 or watch it demand because it's important, do you understand that?

  16. When I went last year, it was still very much lively. This year, would probably be the same but streaming the event should be used for those who want to attend the event but can not. Some companies do private showings thus streaming would not be viable. Nonetheless, it's really up to the companies if they wish to just stream.

  18. E3 is just a chance for developers to show there face now.

  22. I think many people like E3 because of the visceral passion for gaming and game developing. And also it presents as an opportunity for game developers to acquire investors for future projects. In conclusion, I think E3 is here to stay.
P.S. Is it just me or does this seem like the book vs. E-book debate? Hahaha
