Should Nintendo Try To Break From Its Family Friendly Image To Attract More Gaming Audiences For The NX Hardware?

Should Nintendo Try To Break From Its Family Friendly Image To Attract More Gaming Audiences For The NX Hardware? (Community Poll #15) #nintendo #e3 #nx
I am not saying they should all around abandon it, i'm asking if Nintendo should break out of its family friendly shell and present more mature content to get higher amount of untapped audiences on board with there next console (besides the games tailored to its already hardcore fanbase).

  1. It'd be suicide trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft directly in their home turf.

  2. Eddy S Well, they always admit they never try to in many aspects. They even speak on that with the hardware as well, they never do and never will.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Eddy S Nah besides first party they have no support.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Mobile Nigro exactly, because they know what they're doing. They have a nice market share, with minimal direct competition, if Nintendo tried to compete directly with ms and Sony, they're likely to push back and try to force Nintendo out of the market completely. Not worth the risk, especially when they risk alienating their current fans

  5. Eddy S I'll admit it goes good for them but not fully. the Wii U had amazing 1st party titles but most games never doubled the install base of the console, nor brought new developers to the device. Splatoon is a good example of them breaking from there norm, however it still sold in its install base and didn't attract new devs and only slightly got people to buy the console. I really want the NX to get 3rd party support. The 3DS mastered this.

  6. Mobile Nigro no, it's not perfect unfortunately. I guess they just need a fresh launch more than anything. It's ok having one new and original game, but they rely too much on their old ip. They could do with 3-4 completely original games, and that's more likely to pull in the initial sales. And Yer, 3rd party support would help, they just need to make sure it doesn't get hijacked by companies that just want to make fps games ect.

It's also help if they didn't do things like persecuting YouTubers too. That was a mess which really put a mark on their image

  7. Eddy S Like
    New Super Mario Bros.
    New Super Mario Bros. Wii
    New Super Mario Bros. 2
    New Super Mario Bros U
Then they released MM witch dug its grave and outperforms it, in alot of ways.

  8. No but they should make consoles that are as powerful as sony's or Microsoft

    ReplyDelete
  9. Make a powerful no gimic console and allow more 3rd party developer's to make adult games and let Nintendo make more zelda mario type games. Keep it simple and powerful then release the vr or psvita type stuff after and i might buy it i loved my n64 and gamecube but hated the wii and wiiu.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No. Most games like cod or gta are really bad and just boring.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Mobile Nigro haha Yer. Don't get me wrong, the classics are good, and they don't necessarily need to stop them, but they're putting people off by focusing on them as their usp. People want something new

    ReplyDelete
  12. They dont need any gore blood or what ever. When they start to do such a game: It would be not so good and they wouldnt be happy with It and Its all about the happines and not about the money. They like It how It is right now. (Sorry for my broken english)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Coolboy 99 I can't agree there. It's about the money.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Eddy S ofc they do It mainly for the money. You go to the school for your future money too, but I mean that they wouldnt do the mature thing for the money aslong they dont go out of money they would be all unhappy

    ReplyDelete
  15. I feel that Nintendo consoles being family friendly makes them unique, but they miss out on having great multi-plat games that are on the mature side.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And they NEVER will because Nintendo follows their money. Money is with family. Not just adults. Kids and family. Its business smart.

    ReplyDelete
  17. What was Zombie U like? Also not exactly violent but 3rd party content would do wonders for Nintendo, but that much is known I think more titles in general might help just not the same Mario/Sonic/Zelda cycle they've been in for years

    ReplyDelete
  18. Amy Blackheart No. It wouldnt. It would dimish their overall sales. SM3DW was not similar to Mario Galaxy. Wind Waker was not similar to Twilight Princess. Having the same name in the title does not mean the game plays the same.

    ReplyDelete
  19. True but I think what people want is something that's new that's And original from Nintendo, with their fan base it would keep them happy if they put they're awesomely creative minds to a new 1st party title that would be perfect for the release of the new console while also bringing new people to the fan base

    ReplyDelete
  20. Auto correct made that nearly indecipherable

    ReplyDelete
  21. Dr Feel Good I noticed that SM3DW and Wind Waker weren't box office success because they really weren't what Nintendo fans fully wanted at all. I remember the release of Super Mario 3D world and thinking, "Who wanted this? I don't want it" I know I'm not alone when I say Super Mario 3D World is a game fans wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nathaniel Clay Then you really did not look at sales. SM3DW is over 3M units sold on a console with less than 15M units. Thats 20% attach rate. One of the higest in gaming history actually. Wind Waker HD sold about 2M copies I think. Also a good attach rate for a 10+ year old game. Just because you and a few outspoken people did not want it doese NOT mean you speak for everyone. Nintendo is NOT here to please you, but as many as possible. I own and greatly enjoy both games in addition to the other 50+ games I own on the Wii U.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dr Feel Good its was also the slowest selling Mario game as well. There's an article of it having a massively slow sales start in Japan. 2-3 million compared to Mario Kart 8 and Smash show what Nintendo fans were really anticipated for. Mario Kart sold over 3 million. Im not speaking for anyone I'm going of credible sales numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nathaniel Clay Of course since it was NOT a launch game and on a console with the lowest user base. That should be common sense. You are reaching. Just like MK8 has sold over 7M copies. To some that is a failur when compared to MK Wii. However, MK Wii sold 35M copies on a console with a 100M install base. Thats 30% attach rate. MK8 has a 50% attach rate. Do the math. Success is not about sales. Success is about profits.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dr Feel Good 2-3 million sales on a console with an install base of 20+ million owners is not a good thing. 7 million in sales makes a way higher dent in the Wii U's user base than ever. Success is about sales. When a company is selling a game title they are of course trying to get money by delivering good content(and no I am not saying SM3DW is bad). They are not just doing it just to be doing it. They need high sales numbers to attract investors and developers. They are doing it for moneeeey!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Every time I hear the words "appeal to a wider audience" I want to puke.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The wii sold successfully because it was aimed at a friendly audience so no.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nathaniel Clay Tell me where you are getting your "numbers." The Wii U is around 15M. And please tell me of another console maker that has a 1st party game with more than 20% attach rate. Splatoon sold more than Halo 5. A new controversial IP sold more than an established one on a console with almost twice as many units sold.

If success is about sales, why is Sony in debt? They have over $40B in debt. The Wii U was profitable at launch. Nintendo makes many of the games on the Wii U. They make 80-100% profit from games while Sony and Microsoft barely make any money on games because they are 3rd party and the publisher gets most of that money.

I can see that you have absolutely no business sense. I actually have and run two side businesses. You keep thinking sales equals success. The PS3 caused a $2B loss within the first year of release. Although it caught up to the Xbox 360, Sony lost tons of money. Nintendo is the most profitable console maker, game developer, and publisher in gaming history. Even 3rd party dvelopers know this. Get some knowledge before you spout nonsense.

IM DONE!!!! That means I will no longer be replying to you. So please dont waste you time attempting to prove me wrong with your opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dr Feel Good what you meant to say was you don't want your opinion challenged so don't bother because there is no way to prove people like you wrong because logic bounces off you like pebbles on a wall

    ReplyDelete
  30. Their games aren't that family friendly when you look deeper into it. They're like the Disney Channel of gaming.
Besides most of their gamers are 30 year old men. Mature games attract younger audiences. Just look at Splatoon, and CoD.
This last sentence should not be taken seriously

    ReplyDelete
  31. Let's just hope they don't give up on Zelda or Mario. Unlike Sony who gave up almost every IP that was family friendly or fun just to "get with the times". Games these days are too graphic intensive and bloody. Nintendo needs to accept that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Amy Blackheart because "appealing to a wider audience" is usually done at the expense of the audience they already have.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Depends, I like Nintendo I'm a kind of big Zelda fan, that being said I would love to see new Nintendo games not the same three every year

    ReplyDelete
  34. Amy Blackheart So I assume you played/own:
    Code Name STEAM
    Splatoon
    Yoshi Wooly World
    Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
    Animal Crossing
    Bayonetta
    Devils Third
    Hyrule Warriors
    Wonderful 101
    Pikmin 3
    Lego City Undercover
    Captain Toad

I can keep going. People always scream for new IPs from Nintendo, but do not buy them when they come. Not all Mario games are the same. Just because Mario is in the game or title does not mean its the same game.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bayonetta. Occasionally Nintendo steps out of their bubble.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The point I was making was yes it may not be the same game but I want to see completely new ideas Yoshi wooly world is still a game in the Mario universe and Hyrule Warriors is still in the Zelda universe, my point is I would love for Nintendo to release new ips regularly instead of doing that they ride the same three universes every year, the games are different yes but it's still milking them for all they will get

    ReplyDelete
  37. XxChrisIsCoolxX Plays MC yeah your numbers don't match up at all....considering the Wii didn't come out until 2006, that and assuming they did have 99k copies and managed to sell all of them they would have made over 22million considering the wii was $250 us at launch

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well the NX is supposed to be the most advanced console to date so I don't see why more serious 3rd parties wouldn't sign on with it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Commander Shepard The Chosen Undead because Nintendo won't let them...because of the family oriented set up they're not going to hire a lot of other people because that's less that they can tell them what goes on the games

    ReplyDelete
  40. Commander Shepard The Chosen Undead Who said this? Who comfirmed this? Where did you get the info that its "supposed" to be the most advanced console to date? Who even confirmed it was a console?

The answer to all the aforementioned questions is......NO ONE!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dr Feel Good you haven't been paying attention for the last two years have you?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Commander Shepard The Chosen Undead Yes I have. You are looking at sales, but someone that owns a business knows its all about profit. Sales do not mean profit. Playstation is but a small part of a larger company. Just because the Playstation division makes a coupe hundred million in profit in a year does not mean thats all profit. Common sense. So if a PS4 sells for $400 and it costs Sony roughly $375 to make a PS4, how in the hell doese this equate to $40B in debt. I have been following the gaming industry for over 30 years. Get on my level. I have owned Ataris, Turbo Graphix, almost all Sega consoles, etc. Trust me when I say I know gaming.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nintendo is good as it is, I'm gonna pick up a wiiu this month and I don't want these ignorant cod jockeys knowing about such a great console. I hope it's the same for their next console, just make it for the people who actually care about it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Dr Feel Good actually I'm looking at statements from the testers...why the hell would I be looking at the sales?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Commander Shepard The Chosen Undead "Statements" from "testers?!?!" Seriously? Do you have proof that are testers? Why would testers be privy to a potential console early in the development cycle? Thats something R&D are privy to until near completion. Are these official statements or do they come from a random blog site? What are their credentials?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like that there's one major company out there that makes quality games without having to have jiggling tits, Applebottom asses and piles of corpses everywhere. EVERYONE does that stuff, and it's stale.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Commander Shepard The Chosen Undead Yup. Do you know for a fact who has them and if so, present your evidence. If yo uare going based off IGN and Gapespot articles, then you have NO credibility.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yet your using CNN for a credible statement on Sony being 40 billion in debt, you do realize that game consoles are not all they make, they are not only a developer of games and consoles, but a TV producer and all around electronics manufacturer...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Amy Blackheart Which if why I said Sony is in debt, not Playstation. Pay attention. Their TV division has been losing money for years. Smart phone sales suck. Music and movies are okay. Not great. Cameras are good. But once again, Sony as a whole are over $40B in debt.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah and yet they happen to keep making things...if they were that far In debt even the stupidest business executives would cut some of these branches to alleviate the debt...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dr Feel Good also I'm paying attention to your last comment telling him IGN isn't credible yet here you are getting info from CNN...show me proof of anything you just said and I'll believe it until then have a nice day

    ReplyDelete
  52. Amy Blackheart Ummm. I do not even go to CNN at all, so plase quit assuming. Since I am into business, I tend to browse financial pages.

    http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/01/02/sony-has-78-chance-to-go-bankrupt-in-two-years-says-macroaxis/

Not to mention they sold their Square shares back to Square and sold off Viao. So please prove to me that Sony is flourishing. Until then, have a nice day.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I never said they were flourishing....but on the case of you've proved me wrong ill admit it, I'm wrong

    ReplyDelete
  54. Believe it or not, but I own ever Playstation console with exception to PS4. They have strayed away from what made them who they are. What made them a true force to consider. PS4 barely has any exclusives. They are doing exactly what Microsoft did all throughout the last gen. Even Microsoft has stopped this and changed their ways. I dont have the Xbox One either. I do plan on owning both, but none of them are worth more than $200 to me.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Amy Blackheart Mario Kart Wii...36M units sold
    SSB4...5M+ units
    Splatoon...4M+ units
    Mario Kart...7M+ units sold

Exclusives sell consoles because they cannot be obtained anywhere else. If you want a Big Mac, you HAVE to go to McDonalds.

FACT: Nintendo is the kings of exclusives. The top 10 Exclusive games in history are Nintendo titles I think Halo may be at the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I never said they weren't and yeah people buy exclusives yes but I have never heard someone say oh "yeah I'm gonna pass up on ps4 for Mario Kart"

    ReplyDelete
  57. That does NOT matter. Sony is in debt. That have very few 1st party studios available. The PS4 has virtually no games that I cannot get anywhere esle or are not broken. What incentive do I have to invest in one?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Dr Feel Good simple personal opinion and your choice, also of I'm not mistaken Xbox has more exclusives, so why is Ps4 selling better if its just about exclusives...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Amy Blackheart Its called mindshare. Same and only thing Apple has going for it. Business owners know of this immeasurable statistic. People deep into tech know the iPhone is garbage compared to Android, but with extreme smart marketing people will simply buy it because of popularity. PS4 is simply more popular and they even did a survey on this. Its not the better games console. Its simply more popular...which is why it has the absolute lowest attach rate of all the consoles. The average PS4 owner has 1-2 games while the average Wii U owner has 6-8 games. While the PS4 console is popular, their games certainly are NOT. And the ones that are popular...are multiplats.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The problem isn't Nintento.
The real problem is that gamers are so afraid of being seen as the kids they are that they are unwilling to try anything that even hints at how much fun being a kid actually is.

And someone please tell me what is more (im)mature :
    - teabagging a dead opponent
    - squirting ink in their face
