Recently I watched (or observed) movies like Hitman Agent 47 and Pixels and I must say 2015 was NOT a good year in terms of video game based films. Its not the first time I've seen a bad game icon based film. But will we see better representation anytime soon? Let me know! #gaming #movies

ReplyDeleteNo because the game is interactive whereas a film plays out in front of you. Game Theorist did an episode on this and it makes sense.

ReplyDeleteI don't think we will, in the eyes of fans. You could never perfectly reflect the experience of a game with a movie. Fans just knowing that these films, that would be okay on their own, are supposed to be based on movies is what turns them off.

ReplyDeleteGhost Tactician Yeah, but it can be easily adapted into something else. It's player based as we are the ones playing as Martin, but just make it so that we see the whole movie from Martins perspective rather than the choices we make, and we're there.

ReplyDeleteIMHO the reason comic books get done correctly is because the producers don't have to beat or earn the experience of the story. The just flip to the next page they want to analyze and move on. Also IMHO we (gamers as a society) are often viewed as being cute little kids sitting on a carpet playing Mario on a rainy day...those who don't play have no appreciation for the development (how far we have come) Makes Spiderman an easier story to tell then say liquid/solid snake, when you feel you don't have to pander to children...
ReplyDeleteUgh. Philistines. Super Mario Bros. is the greatest film of all time. OF ALL TIME. Bob Hoskins? Dennis Hopper? JOHN LEGUIZAMO?! That's an all-star lineup, especially if Hoskins is drunk! (And boy, was he ever drunk!)

ReplyDeleteWe've already had some decent ones. The first Mortal Kombat was good and even Street Fighter was entertaining despite taking huge liberties with the source material. The first Resident Evil was good too. Again it deviated from the source a bit, but you had Umbrella, you had the T-Virus, you even had zombie dogs, what more do you want?
