Do You Think Companies Bad DLC Practices Could Lead To Another Video Game Market Crash Like In 1983?

Do You Think Companies Bad DLC Practices Could Lead To Another Video Game Market Crash Like In 1983? (Community Poll #3)
Asking this question to the gamers here because DLC seriously stinks in most modern day games and thus a lot of games come out half-baked. Something like this also happened with a lot of titles back in the 80's contributing to the market crash of 83'. Do you see something simular happening in the future? Would love to know! #gaming

  1. I clicked yes, but I'm sorta leaning towards "No" because a lot of people are stupid and their parents and grandparents will buy them anything.

  2. Since we have tons of companies making multi-million dollar stinkers and going out if business after, I'd say yes. Soon there will only be a few companies left to make Triple-A games, and they won't take risks.

  3. DLC is sorta becoming a problem, but i don't see it crashing the market. I feel like most games that come out incomplete, are the result of setting a date and not sticking to it, or some companies noticing that people are getting excited about place holder dates, so they try to meet that deadline. However, some games are holding true to what DLC is supposed to be which is skins, side missions, maybe patches to the game.

  4. Steven Lock you hope the market is going to crash?

  5. Kaito Bloodedge In a manner of speaking, yes. I know it won't though - anytime soon anyways, perhaps a few years or decades.

  6. It could but not just yet....but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

  7. There will never be a market crash. The Video games market is bigger than ever.

  8. Not entirely on its on but definitely will push that way.

  9. Dom the Dominator Well it was big back then as well. Any market can crash look at gas prices now.

  10. Microtransactions can make one happen. If we start to see freerium mobile games being sold to console for 60$ it's good bye gaming industry.

  11. Nikke 2800 man that's the worst form of dlc

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nikke 2800 Totally agree. That coupled with lots of indie games flooding in with no quality checks, big devs ripping us off, and half made games. Its a crap recipe waiting to stirred.
All it will take is people voting like they did. With their wallets. Honestly it may do some good. It'll make devs put more time and effort into a game instead of just making it for a buck.

  13. Something we're forgetting is that DLC allows for game expansion.  Say that a game has all the content of all the DLC's when it's released.  In some cases that could be up to 2 years of extra development before we actually see the game.  All I'm saying is, DLC's allow for richer games with more options.  Not saying it's good or bad.

  14. I don't see the problem with paying for dlc so long as I got my money's worth from the original game! I think people have a very short memory span as when I was growing up it would cost you £39.99 for a mega drive game, most wouldn't last that long it got worse with the Saturn, Sega rally and daytona releasing with 3 tracks each for that price! I honestly think for the most part I get my money's worth out of my games almost always, and if I feel I have, I have no problem spending a few more pounds to continue something I enjoy playing! It is a buisness 1st and foremost.

  15. William Elam .yes i agree dlc makes a game last alot longer.

    Look at dying light.

  16. Dom the Dominator yeah there's rare moments when a company uses dlc for good an dnot for evil however there still isn't many companies that do what techland did with there shit. Dying lights an OK game imo

  18. Yes, eventually though, once the sheep realize that they've been buying the same crap games over & over with a minor reskin and great original games don't exist anymore

  19. Yes, we got damn close to it in 2014 especially after destiny came out oh wait I mean when 1/10th of destiny came out.

  20. As annoying and greedy as it is, no. In fact, that greediness might actually keep the gaming industry afloat for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No because people will continue to gripe about it, but in the end they will buy it no matter how crappy a deal it is

  22. The video game market already crashed. Check stocks for major developers like trearc or EA.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah its gonna happen... And its gonna be like the the great digital depression because how involved games have become in the community

  24. Considering it was bad business practices that caused the video game crash and not a single game (E.T.) it is completely possible it can happen again.

I personally hate how games need an update day one, and have day one and even pre-order or store specific dlc. The worst thing is those season passes that cost about as much or depending if ya caught the game in sale more than the actual game.

Sure these things won't kill the industry as swiftly as the earlier crash, but it's already started and its going to be slow death and a major company will go under and sadly it might be Nintendo. The NX could be Nintendo's swan song like the Dreamcast was Sega's.

  25. The gaming crash in 1983 happened mainly because there were so many gaming companies and each one had Its own console. If a new crash happens in the near future it won't be because of the DLCs

  26. Look at all the broke fags can't aford dlc

    ReplyDelete
  27. Lol no. Video games are constantly growing. I can bet 100 percent non of you are gonna stop playing video games. Everyone that said yes just doesn't want dlc. Well guess what? If you don't want dlc get ready to pay a lot more for video game's. Either that or you don't know how market crashing works and I guaruntee 99 percent of you don't.

  29. I couldn't see people stop gaming just cause of shitty dlc. The best way to stop shitty dlc is to not buy it people

  30. Eddie Scout Where's Nintendo? You only mentioned Sony, Microsoft, and PC.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nathaniel Clay no way, the main reason the industry crashed in the West was because Atari was the only company that had a place in the home video game industry. There are too many companies across the freaking world with hundreds of millions of dollars to flush.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Eddie Scout you do realize console gaming is more popular then ever. Both the ps4 and Xbox one are out selling all of there predecessors. People go to consoles because its cheap and easy to maintain.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I may or may not. But I sure as hell want all of the classic game systems.
