You can change just about any icon to any image you want if you have a .png file set to the right image size. If you right-click the icon and select properties, you can change it there. Though, I'll admit it's been a while since i've had the desire to. But it is possible.
I should clarify, it has to be a shortcut. Some non-shortcut icon's can be changed from the properties but it's mostly shortcuts. When you right-click the icon, and go to properties, it will open to a tab called "Shortcut" and towards the bottom is a button to "Change Icon". but again, you have to have a .png image set to I believe either 8x8 or 16x16 at the largest. But I'm sure you can verify that if you do a Google Search on how to change an Icon image.
